Free range chickens come in all shapes and sizes and it is very difficult to know if a bird has had a true free range life or whether it has been grown in a huge barn with only restricted access to the outside.

At Locks Drove we are now producing a cross bred bird which combines traditional slower growth but also includes a superb body shape to maximise breast meat and gives a first class texture throughout the light and dark meat.

There are many different classifications of free range and ours conform the 'Traditional Free Range - Total Freedom'. This classification means our birds grow slower, have no restrictions to their roaming on the range and are always over 11 weeks old before slaughter.

Our sheds are small and mobile and ensure small flock numbers. We have to conform to a low stocking density and our feed composition is specially formulated to include a high cereal content.

Our birds are available from local butchers and farm shops and also 'The Meat Room' which is at our neighbour's farm in Upton which is a small shop on the farm open on Saturday mornings.
